French American Reeds Prepares for 70th Anniversay

Jackson, TN, July 21, 2007:  French American Reeds announced plans for their 70th anniversary beginning in 2009. In 1933 Mario Maccaferri started manufacturing reeds for clarinets and saxophones in Paris, France. His reeds were exported to the United States. As fighting in WWII intensified he moved with his family to the USA.  In 1939 Mario and Maria Maccaferri, established the French American Reeds Manufacturing Company in New York, NY.  Five years ago in 2003 daughter, Eliane, moved operation to Jackson, TN and began marketing the world famous Maccaferri Reeds to a new generation of musicians.

Coinciding with the 70th Anniversary French American Reeds plans to release several new reed profiles developed with the help of music professors and professional musicians.  Eliane says “The reed business has changed over the years and we’ve found a great niche working with professionals and students.”

Traditionally, French American competed with the large branded manufacturers.  As the business evolved, French American identified a market for players that demand the quality of a handmade reed, but require the lower price point than that of the traditional manufacturers.  “We are able to provide personal attention to our products and service that both professionals and independent retailers find unique” said Reese.

The business has been around for 70 years and continues to serve multiple generations of musicians. Eliane says “I hear terrific feedback from new customers and older players who grew up with Maccaferri Reeds and we look forward to serving them in the future”.
